Early Wheels

The early spoked wheels mirrored those found on cars and carts in the early 1920s. Later wheels were of the narrow 'tinplate' variety, which were also found on many toys of the 1950s era. Plastic wheels of a more modern design were introduced in the late 1960s.

At the top, is part 19a the spoked wheel, which was available in black and red. It is 3" in diameter, featured in early kits, and then as a spare part. At the bottom, the 'Tinplate' wheels part 187 which are 2½" in diameter and were available in various colour schemes up until the late 1960s kits.

Tne late 1960s saw the intorduction of plastic wheels part 187 with a more modern look. These were the same 2½" diameter as the old style tinplate wheels, and were available in colours to match the various kits.

Lastly, there is the rare part 187b, a large plastic 4¼" diameter wheel. Only produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s, these were only available as a spare part, and original ones command a good price!
